Purpose of Technology Labs
Welcome to the Technology Labs! The purpose of the Technology Labs is to teach you from ground zero how to use Excel along with the statistics in this class.
Why Excel?
We now live in a data driven world that uses statistics to take a vast amount of data and use it to help us make better decisions in every aspect of our lives. Excel saves professionals and students thousands of hours by calculating certain statistics for us. Without Excel, these calculations take much longer.
Getting Excel
If you don’t already have the latest version of Excel (365) on your computer, you can download it for free as an RRCC student. See written instructions posted on D2L or watch this short video. Note, this is available for windows and mac computers but is not available on Chromebooks or iPads. You can access the web version of Excel 365 from nearly any device but it does not have all the same features as the downloaded/installed version of Excel.
Learning Excel
If you’re brand new to Excel, check out this video Excel 365 Basics (9:02) before starting on your first Excel assignment.
Here’s some basics you’ll need to know this semester:

Excel related terminology: Worksheet, Workbook, Formula Bar, Ribbon

Know what a row, column and cell is. For example, know what cell A1 or cell B2 means.

How to select one or more cells or one or more columns

Copy and paste from one set of cells into another or between Excel files

Create new “sheets” within your workbook and navigate between sheets.

Rename sheets.

Know how to “undo” a mistake you made.

Change formatting for text and for numbers with the Number formatting options

Resize columns (or rows)
-
Know how to save a file and open it later
